Man, looking at this week's schedule of College Football games, you may want to schedule that home work day you've been putting off all summer. Or even schedule that crazy flea market trip your significant other wanted you to go on. Or...just make it another excuse to eat, drink and be merry!! Most of you will probably take the third option, but man, it's a tough week for match-ups. We already saw one upset with Vanderbilt defeating South Carolina. What is up with South Carolina? I guess most of us thought the Ole Ball Coach would turn this thing around. If you can't beat Vanderbilt, who can you beat??

I think the marquee matchups are Florida-Miami and Oklahoma-Cincinnati. Maybe even Penn State-Oregon State. Maybe I'm reaching, but at noon, I'm looking at UConn-Temple. Yes...I am on crack, but this game looks interesting. I think Temple may be going in the right direction with former Nit Al Golden at the helm. They are 1-0, so we'll see what happens...maybe even an upset that most won't care about....

Now for the Top Ten. I noticed the mainstream pollsters made some changes this week and it's the reason why I hate them. My lingering bitterness from 1994 (forteen years strong Stephy!!) is that that the pollsters moved teams around just because someone wasn't impressive enough. Or put in the 5th string and the opponent scored three touchdowns with like five seconds left in a half empty stadium. It's riddiculous and it cost my beloved 1994 Penn State (the best college offensive performance of all time!!!) the National Championship. Anyway, polls really should be meaningless (look at the 2004 Presidential election exit polls!!), but we like them anyway. So here goes....
1. Southern Cal. If you saw my preseason poll, I had them at the top anyway. So there.

2. Oklahoma. Can they Bear(cats) this week?

3. Georgia. Why oh why does everybody think this team will do so well? The have injury and morals issues (players hurt and suspended), they weren't impressive last wek..And yet...They defended their spot and stay at #3
4. Ohio State. Next week is the BIG Game. Easy to look past state rival Ohio. Are they rivals??

5. LSU. Gotta feel bad for what their state is going through. Game postponed this week.

6. Missouri. Deserve to move up, BUT they aren't better than most above them (except maybe Georgia).

7. Texas. Always talented.
8. BYU. The Underdog

9. Alabama. They played the best last week. I hate Nick Saban, but he did a hellava job.

10. Penn State. Stupid idiots who get caught partying and having pot in their room, especially during the season, should be shot. I'm guessing the administration has put the final nail in Joe Pa's coffin. Damn shame-this could be a good year!

And yes, I'd hate to devote more space to the debacle that is Penn State, but it's a slow news week! I'm very dissappointed the players cannot excercise better judgement. Yes-kids can be kids..we were all kids once and did stupid things (God knows I did!!!). But my goodness, you football players are different...as much as I hate to say it...you are in a position where you are representing the University! As unfair as it is, you are high profile and nowadays, everyone knows everything that you do! Grow up and be smart! As for the coaches, shame on you even more! No, you aren't babysitters. But for God's sake, it's time to treat these kids like babies until they show and prove they are responsible young adults!! Yes, this generation of college students are extremely difficult and don't take direction like they might have 30 years ago. But you have a program (and a coach) to protect. Goshdarnit...just do it!! It's ruining the leagacy of a man who has done so much for the University and the sport he represents!

Rant over.
